Former Border Patrol Agent Sentenced to Federal Prison

MCALLEN – A former Border Patrol agent will spend two years behind bars for making false claims to benefit drug trafficking organizations.

Eduardo Bazan is accused of making a false statement regarding a narcotics seizure. He pleaded guilty to the charges in June.

The Department of Justice said law enforcement learned a load of cocaine Border Patrol seized in 2007 may had been staged with diluted narcotics to allow drug traffickers to steal the original drugs.

Prosecutors said the 49-year-old admitted to receiving $8,000 for helping drug traffickers stage the seizure.

Bazan will also be serving three years of supervised release.
