Laguna Vista to Unveil Aircraft Carrier Memorial

Posted: Updated:

LAGUNA VISTA – The city of Laguna Vista is set to unveil the Rio Grande Valley’s first ever Aircraft Carrier Memorial.

The city manager, Rolando Vela, said it will be the first such memorial in the state.

“It’s a coming together of people to donate their work, to establish these memorials to the beautiful community of Laguna Vista,” Vela said.

He said the idea was the brainchild of a Laguna Vista resident who works in the Brownsville shipyard dismantling aircraft carriers.

The memorial will include large bollards from decommissioned naval ships donated by the Laguna Vista resident.

The unveiling ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. on Veteran’s Day, Nov. 11 at the Veteran’s Memorial Park on FM 510 in Laguna Vista.

Vela invites anyone to the ceremony and said they are working on a very special guest speaker.

The project is completely funded by volunteer time and donations.
