Donna ISD Police Investigating High School Burglary

Posted: Updated:

DONNA – Donna ISD police said one suspect is in custody after a break-in at Donna North High School ended in a police pursuit.

Police believe the group managed to get into school grounds by breaking in through a side entrance.

Donna ISD Police Chief Daniel Walden said once inside, the burglars grabbed the keys to a police unit and took off with the vehicle.

While driving the stolen patrol car, the suspects tried pulling over a Hidalgo County Sheriff’s deputy’s unit, according to Walden. That deputy, whose dashcam video was obtained by CHANNEL 5 NEWS, gave chase.

We’re told multiple agencies responded to the chase before it came to a stop north of Donna.

"Once they realized it was a sheriff's unit, they turned around and sheriff pursued them to Wisconsin and Dillon roads where several male subjects bailed out from there," said Walden.

The group bailed and managed to get away.

One suspect was apprehended Monday and he reportedly confessed to the crime. The other two were identified.

Police are working to issue a warrant to formally arrest and charge all suspects.

Donna ISD police are asking for the public’s help to find the other alleged criminals. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Donna ISD Police Department at 956-464-1753.
