Delayed Start on Friday for Valley School Districts

WESLACO – Some local school district will be starting classes slightly later Friday morning, due to the inclement weather the Rio Grande Valley is expecting.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS will be updating this story as school districts notify us on delayed starts for Friday.

BROWNSVILLE ISD

Elementary level schools will start at 10:30 a.m.

Middle schools will start at 10:00 a.m.

High schools will start classes at 11:15 a.m.

All district employees need to report to their assignments at their regular scheduled hours.

EDCOUCH-ELSA ISD

Classes will be starting at 9:00 a.m.

All district teachers and staff are expected to report to work at the normal time to help receive students.

Buses will be running 30 minutes later than normal and minivans or buses will be available to pick up any students that missed the first route.

Dismissal times for both students and staff will follow the regular schedule. 

EDINBURG CISD

Edinburg CISD Superintendent Dr. Rene Gutierrez said the district will be delaying the start of the school day for Friday, Dec. 8.

Gutierrez said it’s due to the possibility of snow in the early morning.

Elementary level schools will start classes at 9:00 a.m.

Middle schools will start at 9:25 a.m.

The high schools will start at 9:50 a.m.

All facility and staff are expected to report to work at 8:30 a.m.

EDINBURG CLASSICAL ACADEMY

The school will open to both students and staff at 9:00 a.m.

HIDALGO ISD

Elementary schools will start instruction at 9:50 a.m.

The junior high level will begin at 9:30 a.m.

Hidalgo ECHS and Academy will begin at 9:00 a.m.

Bus pickups will be at the following times:

Elementary at 9:15 a.m.

DJHS, Academy and Hidalgo ECHS pickups will be at 8:20 a.m.

HORIZON MONTESSORI PUBLIC SCHOOLS

All campuses in McAllen, Weslaco, Harlingen will start at 9:00 a.m.

Staff will report to work at their regular time.

LA JOYA ISD

All students will report to classes one hour later than scheduled.

Bus pickups will also pick up students one hour later than regularly scheduled.

All staff and employees will report to work at their regular times.

LASARA ISD

All students will be starting at 9:00 a.m.

Teachers and staff are expected to report to work at 8:00 a.m.

MCALLEN ISD

Elementary schools will be starting at 9:05 a.m.

Middle schools at 9:10 a.m.

High schools will start instruction at 9:20 a.m.

Campus staff will report to work at 8:30 a.m.

MISSION AGAPE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL

Only students will report to classes at 9:45 a.m.

Staff will report to work at their regular time.

MISSION CISD

Elementary schools will begin at 9:45 a.m.

Junior high classes will start at 10:00 a.m.

High schools will begin at 10:15 a.m.

School bus pick up time will also be delayed by two hours.

School administration and custodians should report to work as close to the regular times as possible.

The remainder of campus staff should report to work at 9:00 a.m. Central Administration Offices will open at 9:00 a.m.

MONTE ALTO ISD

All students will be starting at 9:00 a.m.

Staff will be reporting at 8:30 a.m.

SAN ISIDRO ISD

Students will begin classes at 9:30 a.m.

SOUTH TEXAS WELDING SCHOOL in PHARR

Classes will start at 9:00 a.m.

ST. MATTHEW'S EPISCOPAL SCHOOL in EDINBURG

Students will start classes at 9:00 a.m.

VANGUARD ACADEMY in PHARR, EDINBURG, and ALAMO

Students will report to classes at 9:00 a.m.

Teachers and staff at 8:00 a.m.

Cafeteria staff at 7:00 a.m.

WESLACO ISD

Elementary schools will begin classes at 8:45 a.m.

Middle schools at 8:20 a.m.

High schools at 9:00 a.m.

Buses will run 30 minutes behind the normal route schedule.

All campuses will be open at their regular times as essential staff will be ready to welcome students. The workday for all other faculty and staff members will run 30 minutes later than normal.
