EDINBURG – UTRGV’s all-time leading scorer Shawnte’ Goff is playing pro basketball in the Czech Republic for a team called Lokomotiv Trutnov. Although she’s fresh out of college, Goff says she was signed for her ability to lead a team.
“The coach actually told me he wanted me to be a leader,” said Goff. “That’s what I was here in Edinburg so it wasn’t too hard. I think the only really hard thing is the language barrier. We’re a young team. We always go out and play hard. We get the games we’re supposed to get. The games we’re counted out of, we make sure to play really hard.”
Trutnov is currently an under .500 ball club. Goff’s long-term goal is to play against better competition like top tier European teams.
“Individually it’s always about playing for the next contract,” said Goff. “What I do is come in and help the team any way possible. My personal goal is about getting better. We’re not in the Euro Cup. When you’re in the Euro Cup, that’s the highest of the highs. You’re playing against WNBA players.”
Off the court, Goff says it’s been hard adjusting to living in the Czech Republic, but she still has half of her season left to play with Trutnov.
