Suspect Wanted in Brownsville Aggravated Robbery

BROWNSVILLE – The search continues for a man involved in an aggravated robbery in Brownsville.

The Cameron County Sheriff’s Office is looking for the suspect who’s said to have entered a convenience store on the 2300 block of Carlos Avenue on Tuesday.

The man was caught on surveillance video holding a knife and demanding cash from the clerk.

The store is considering changing their policy to better protect themselves. This is the third time in less than two years thieves target the business.

The owner says no one on his staff recognizes the suspect in surveillance footage.

In the video, you can see the burglar approach the business on a bike. He goes inside. Cameras capture the moment he holds up a knife, pointing it at the clerk.

The thief demands money and the employee quickly hands over what she can before the man reaches across the counter into the register and takes more wads of cash.

The entire incident took less than 30 seconds. The man got away with nearly $250 from the register.

Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio says his officers are working to catch this suspect. They’re concerned he’s dangerous.

"As soon as he got most of the money, he took off. He was last seen leaving the store there, and he was described as a medium complexion – a young man, about 20 years old or 21," he said.

The store owner told CHANNEL 5 NEWS he’s considering implementing new policies of a minimum of two or more employees a shift. He hopes this prevents his business from being targeted again.

Anyone with information on the suspect’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office at 956-554-6700.
