Federal Agency’s Flight Laws for Drone Users

Posted: Updated:

WESLACO – If you receive a drone for Christmas, remember there are laws that people need to know before flying them.

This year, the state of Texas approved new laws for drones.

Some of the new guidelines dictate how drones can be used to film in professional settings.

Using a drone to film people could land you in a lot of trouble.

“It is illegal to go behind someone’s house and do all that good stuff. You can’t be above crowds. Anything like that,” said Jeremy Ledesma, an employee at New Sun Racing.

The U.S. Forest Service reminds drone users to never fly a drone above a wildfire.

The Federal Aviation Administration requires registration of all drones that weigh over .55 pounds.

Failure to file could result in fines up to $250,000.
