HIDALGO – A man trying to cross into the U.S. through an international bridge was arrested after U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials discovered his criminal history.

Officers encountered the man at the Hidalgo International Bridge on Wednesday.

They say the 40-year-old Salvadorian had prior arrests in his home country for theft and statutory rape of a disabled minor.

CBP officers turned him over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials at the Port Isabel Detention Center, pending removal proceedings.
