Court to Decide if Bond Company Owes Money for Former County Clerk

Posted: Updated:

EDINBURG – A Rio Grande Valley court is deciding if a bail bond company has to pay up for a former elected official who has been on the run for years.

Former Hidalgo County Clerk Omar Guerrero has been a fugitive since 2013.

Hidalgo County District Attorney Ricardo Rodriguez says they've been working to get bond forfeitures from several bail bond companies who put up bonds for Guerrero.

He says the fight over the bail bonds has been tied up for years with procedural fights.

On Thursday, Hidalgo County Court at Law 1 heard arguments on one bond worth $50,000.

The DA says the defense for the bond company is requesting a recusal.

That’ll have to be decided later by a higher state court.
