Lack of Biometric Technology at Valley Airports

Posted: Updated:

BROWNSVILLE – The use of biometric scanning at airports is growing but not in the Rio Grande Valley.

Biometric technology scans the face, eyes or fingerprints of travelers.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers can use the information to crosscheck people entering or leaving the country.

The technology is not being utilized at the Brownsville-South Padre Island International Airport due to the high cost and concerns of slowing down airline procedures.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS is checking with the other two major airports in the Valley about their use of biometric technology.
