Trial Date Set for Man Charged with Capital Murder

WESLACO – A man accused of beating a veteran to death now has a trial date.

McAllen police say in January of last year, Andres Ortiz beat Jose Oviedo.

They say the Honduran national stole Oviedo’s car, which was later found crashed in front of a P.F. Chang’s restaurant.

Oviedo was on life support for weeks before dying from his injuries.

Ortiz is charged with capital murder.

His trial date is set for April 9.
