No Injuries Reported in Mission House Fire

MISSION – A Mission father and son are homeless after a blaze destroyed their home Tuesday night.

Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire. It happened along Inspiration Road in Mission.

Officials said the blaze was hard to battle because of where the home is located on the property. The house sits at the end of a dead end and is surrounded by a brick wall on three sides of it and brushy area on the fourth side.

Derrek Lawreo resides at the home. He said he feels the total loss could have been avoided.

“I know there’s no fire hydrant on the end of the street or really here on Inspiration. They had to seriously just run the hose for, I don’t know how long, so that’s why it took a long time to get the water going and everything,” he said.

The Mission fire chief said there were many challenges they had to quickly overcome in order to fight the blaze.

“Of course the distance from the hydrant. We dropped about 1,800 feet of about five-inch hose which supplies our fire apparatus and that took some effort. And of course, we also had the intersection of Inspiration in regards to traffic running over our hoses as well,” Mission Fire Department Chief Gilbert Sanchez said.

The father and son said they lost everything in the blaze. They said they’re devastated but find comfort in that no one was hurt.
