HIDALGO – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested a man attempting to enter the country posing as a U.S. citizen.

It happened Thursday at the Hidalgo International Bridge.

While applying for admission into the U.S., the 31-year-old declared to officers that he was a citizen born in Puerto Rico and presented a Puerto Rico identification card.

CBP says a systems check revealed the man is actually a Mexican national who's been deported multiple times before.

His most recent removal was on Jan. 4.

The man was taken into CBP custody.
