Authorities Ask Public to Help Identify Body Found in Rio Grande

NEAR PENITAS – The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office is working to identify a body found in the Rio Grande River last month.

Deputies say they responded to a call in a rural area south of Penitas on Dec. 10 after Border Patrol agents made the discovery.

The Penitas and Palmview fire departments assisted in the recovery.

Investigators say there were no visible signs of foul play.

They determined the remains belonged to those of a young adult male with short dark-colored hair. In an attempt to identify him, authorities released images of tattoos on the man’s arms and clothing.

He was wearing blue jean pants with a red, white and blue canvas belt and black sneakers with black laces.

He had a tattoo of what appears to be three skulls on his lower forearms, another tattoo with the words “Bendiceme Mi Nina” on the upper forearm and a third tattoo of the Grim Reaper on the upper right forearms.

Results of an autopsy are still pending.

Anyone with information on the case should call Hidalgo County Crime Stoppers at 956-668-8477.
