Matching Work Skills, Experience with Job Opportunities

Posted: Updated:

MISSION – Finding employment isn't just a challenge for people with little experience. Those with very specific skills face challenges as well.

As part of CHANNEL 5 NEWS' Heart of the Valley series, job seekers of various experience levels visited job fairs Friday at several Workforce Solutions offices.

Michael Gonzalez began a technically focused career as soon as he graduated high school in the Rio Grande Valley. His career took him away from home. He's now back and looking to find a fit for his future.

"I like ripping electronics apart. Testing them. Putting them back together," said Gonzalez.

He joined the Air Force at 18 years old, he said. He worked with satellites, networks and drones as a civilian.

"That's been the most difficult part for someone with my kind of background to come down here and find some kind of quality inspector job or very technically related field of some kind to find gainful employment," said Gonzalez.

At Friday's job fair, he and many others were able to make direct contact with one of many employers.

"I'm feeling great," he said. "Everything's starting to fall into place and starting to look up."
