Two Local Cities Have a Deal For Those With Outstanding Citations

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND--South Padre Island and the City of Edinburg have an offer for those with outstanding citations. Both cities are starting up programs allowing offenders to pay in order to avoid arrest.

Those with overdue citations in Edinburg have some time to pay them up starting Monday through March second. 

In a statement, the city says it will waive all class "C" arrest warrants and dismiss any failure to appear charge for those who show up in person to pay their fines. The offender has to appear at the city courthouse during normal business hours. Edinburg courts accept cash, credit cards, and money orders.

Edinburg Municipal Court Chief Marshal Raul Ramos reports his court has close to 43,000 outstanding warrants, totaling over $10 million. Some of these citations date back to 2000.

Their address is 1702 S. Closner Boulevard. The court is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday.

South Padre Island will conduct a warrant roundup Feb. 24th. That's when you can be arrested. Officials with South Padre Island ask offenders to visit the city's municipal court during normal business hours now to pay their fines to avoid being arrested. The court will accept credit cards, cash, checks or money orders. Their address is: 4601 Padre Blvd., South Padre Island, Texas 78597. They are open Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
