EDINBURG – Classes resumed at two Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District schools as police continue to search for a third suspect in a theft investigation.

Assistant Chief Oscar Trevino, a spokesman for the Edinburg Police Department, said officers responded to a call at a Dollar General on the 1400 block of West Monte Cristo around 10 a.m.

Trevino says two females were apprehended on suspicion of theft soon after, but one male suspect fled on foot.

Lockdowns at Edinburg North High School and Truman Elementary School were activated as a precaution as police searched the area.

Police say the suspect has not yet been located.

Edinburg CISD police secured the premises of the campus. School activities resumed at 11:15 a.m.

Trevino adds the two females taken into custody are being charged with narcotics possession.

The investigation is ongoing.
