Weslaco Resident Says Ongoing Drainage Issues Causing Floods

Posted: Updated:

WESLACO – The city of Weslaco says they can’t get to all the drainage problems throughout the area.

Families along Amber Drive say they're still cleaning out their homes from the damage left behind when June’s floods occurred.

Residents in the area blame the drainage as the cause for the flooding.

“It flows around these houses it comes to the backyard and it goes right through the house, basically, and right here. It’s just like a lake,” says resident Derek Dixon.

KRGV’s Angelo Vargas reached out to Hidalgo County Precinct 1 in regards to the issue.

They sent the following statement, which reads in part:

"Plans have been developed and we are coordinating with the irrigation and utility companies to perform the crossing. There are six gas lines at the crossing, so we are taking special precautions in our design to cross them. The existing line is plugged and precinct one installed a temporary 24-inch high flow line during the last rain event.”
