Coastal Flood, High Surf Advisories in Effect at SPI

Posted: Updated:

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND – Beach officials are advising people to stay out of the water due to the high waves.

The height ranges from four to six feet.

More than 100 surfers showed up at the beach Wednesday to ride what seems like perfect waves.

KRGV’s Sierra Pizarro explains rescuers spent more than half an hour pulling in a surfer back to shore.

“They get caught in the waves. The waves are pretty high, it's a pretty high surf right now. He was having a problem trying to get back in,” says Cameron County Park Ranger Chief of Police Horacio Zamora.

The National Weather Service issued both a coastal flood and high-surf advisory set to expire until 7 a.m. Thursday.
