DPS: 1 Fatality in Willacy Co. Auto-Pedestrian Crash

RAYMONDVILLE – Authorities confirmed at least one fatality in an auto-pedestrian crash north of Raymondville.

Department of Public Safety Spokesperson Johnny Hernandez tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS troopers and local police responded to the crash on Business 77 Tuesday evening. 

Hernandez says preliminary findings show that at around 7 p.m., a Dodge Ram pickup truck was traveling southbound when it struck a person crossing the roadway. 

The pedestrian, identified as 69-year-old Jose De La Rosa of Raymondville, died at the scene. 

DPS says the driver of the pickup truck did render aid and is cooperating with police. 

The investigation is ongoing.

EXTRA: DPS gave the following tips now that daylight savings time is over. 

- Make yourself visible to motorists by wearing bright/light colored clothing and reflective materials

- Carry a flashlight when walking at night

- Cross the roadway in a well-lit area at night
