EDINBURG- A review of accidents at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley for the month of October revealed a spike in auto-pedestrian incidents.

UTRGV Police Chief Raul Munguia told CHANNEL 5 NEWS accidents involving cyclists and vehicles can be avoided if both individuals pay more attention.

He said campus police has seen a growing tendency of students crossing the road while listening to music, reading or using their cellphone.

He advised the best practice is to always look both ways and for cyclists to get off their bikes at crosswalks.

UTRGV police are working on a campaign to bring down the number of accidents.
