Battery Thieves Hit Up Drainage Pumps in Mercedes
MERCEDES- As Hidalgo County Drainage District One works to pump standing water out of neighborhoods, they're also running into other issues.
Officials shared photos showing the back of a pump draining water in south Mercedes.
Missing in those photos, were the batteries that sit on metal brackets powering the pumps.
It's believed a grinder was used to remove the batteries.
The drainage district is working to see if the pump is damaged, or still functioning.
Despite having employees make rounds through the night, officials say they still get stolen from, which slows down the drainage process.
