Border Patrol Unit Involved in Accident in Progreso
PROGRESO - DPS troopers are investigating a crash that sent one Border Patrol agent to the hospital.
The incident happened Thursday afternoon on Santiago Galvan Road in Progreso.
Two vehicles, a 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada and a U.S. Border Patrol unit, had crashed. Several Border Patrol units, DPS and Weslaco police responded to the scene.
One car involved in the crash was flipped over by the time we arrived.
DPS spokesman Lt. Johnny Hernandez said the person who crashed with the Border Patrol unit was a 20-year-old man. He said he was speeding at the time of the collision.
DPS said the suspect was trying to get away from officials. After the accident, he was taken into custody for possession of marijuana.
The Border Patrol agent was transported to Knapp Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
