BPUB Advises Caution with Calls Demanding Payment
BROWNSVILLE – The Brownsville Public Utilities Board warns of phony calls that demand you pay an outstanding bill.
Officials say people posing as BPUB employees instruct the customer to call another number and make a payment through a pre-paid card or credit card.
On a statement issued out Monday, BPUB clarifies their operators will never take payment information during a call.
The agency advises customers to never provide personal information, such as Social Security numbers, credit card or bank account information.
If you’ve received these types of calls, you’re asked to report it to the Brownsville Police Department at 956-548-7000.
