Brownsville Man Pleads Guilty to Smuggling Over 50 Pounds of Meth

BROWNSVILLE – A Brownsville man will spend the next two decades in federal prison, after caught trying to smuggle more than 50 pounds of methamphetamine into the country.

Forty-four year old Antonio Torres pled guilty for trying to smuggle the meth in a car at the Gateway International Bridge in Brownsville.

During an inspection, officers found 22 bundles of the drug hidden in the floorboard underneath the driver’s and front passenger seats.

Custom and Border Protection officers said the bundles totaled nearly 53 pounds.

Torres will serve 20 years in prison, followed by five years of supervised release.
