Brownsville Police Arrest Student for Filing False Report
BROWNSVILLE – A UTRGV student who was allegedly held up and had his truck stolen on campus is behind bars.
Brownsville police arrested 29-year-old Miguel Angel Uribe and charged him with making a false report to police and insurance fraud.
Back on Nov. 1, police said Uribe filed a police report saying an armed man threatened him as he was walking towards his 2014 Dodge Durango, parked at Lincoln Park, and demanded his keys.
He told police he had just gotten out of a night class at the UTRGV Brownsville campus.
But police said Uribe made up the story. They said surveillance video at the Gateway International Bridge showed one of Uribe’s acquaintances driving the SUV into Mexico.
Uribe had filed a false insurance claim.
His bond was set at $8,200.
