Buildup of Dirt Found in Weslaco Culverts
WESLACO – Residents in Weslaco say they’re tired of unclogging culverts saturated by dirt.
Recently, one outlet in Austin Street, the only drain for a nearby canal, was found to have accumulated silt.
A Weslaco city engineer says the June floods could have caused the problem.
“We had a major event. So, we had a flow of water, we had a flow of debris,” says Mardoqueo Hinojosa.
After meeting on Tuesday with city commissioners, crews were instructed to clear culverts and remove debris from canals.
They hope maintenance and improvement will keep the issue from happening again.
