UPDATE (11/20): A duo facing felony charges for tampering with governmental records operated a notary public business, according to officials.

Cameron County Tax Assessor-Collector Tony Yzaguirre says Diana Garza and Francisco Montes attempted to obtain several vehicle temporary license plates from the office.

That's when a staff member noticed the pair were using the same insurance policy number for all the temporary plates.

Yzaguirre says with a closer look, they realized the documents were false and called the police right away.

The Brownsville Police Department says their investigation on the duo continues.
