BROWNSVILLE – People in Cameron County who have registered to vote using an app may have their ballot at risk.

Several counties across Texas were affected when a non-profit organization known as vote.org was allowed to register voters with an app.

KRGV’s Trason Bragg spoke with Cameron County’s Election Administrator Remi Garza about the situation.

"Where they essentially fill it out, it pre-populates a form. They actually take a picture of their signature and upload that on to the form and upload it to the signature line,” says Garza.

Garza explains the Secretary of State’s office found that process violated Texas voter registration laws because the actual registration form wasn’t signed.

The 17 Cameron County residents who used the app were sent a copy of the application and were asked to sign it and send it back within 10 days.
