WESLACO – Thousands of people who traveled through the Anzalduas International Bridge were captured through a facial recognition program.

The images of nearly 200,000 people will be turned into data, which will be analyzed by private companies, as the test trial comes to an end.

“Sometimes a person is hard to capture in one image, so the technology utilized several images that way that person could be truly identified,” explains the public affairs liaison for the Hidalgo Port of Entry, Philip Barrera.

Those whose images were captured will be compared to criminal data to see if there are any links for potential arrests.

KRGV’s Christian Colón spoke with several people who often travel to Mexico through ports of entry.
