WESLACO – The investigation continues after a child was found wandering alone at an apartment complex.

Weslaco Police On-Call Public Information Officer Juan Mariscal confirmed the ongoing investigation. He said charges are pending.

He said no one was charged but an offense report was filed for abandoning or endangering a child.

Police investigators are looking into the case to determine if the circumstances meet the elements of those charges.

“We did notify Child Protective Services,” Mariscal said. “It all depends on what investigators find. If they see there is no intention, there may not be any charges.”

CPS will determine if the child needs to be removed from the family.

The mother of the child reached out to CHANNEL 5 NEWS on Facebook. She said the child got out on her own and it was an accident.
