Child sex assault suspect kills self at sheriff's office

CLEBURNE, Texas (AP) - Investigators say a man sought on charges that he sexually assaulted two children younger than age 6 shot and killed himself outside the North Texas offices of the sheriff who was seeking him.

A statement from the Johnson County Sheriff's Office says 35-year-old Michael Patrick McGovern took his own life with a handgun shortly after noon Wednesday in the parking lot outside the sheriff's office in Cleburne (KLEE'-burn), about 27 miles (43 kilometers) south of Fort Worth.

Sheriff's deputies and FBI agents had searched McGovern's house near Mansfield on Monday after authorities said they found that he was distributing child pornography on the internet.

A warrant charging McGovern with super-aggravated sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child was issued on Tuesday and a wanted poster was placed on social media Wednesday morning.
