City of San Benito to administer Moderna vaccine at COVID-19 clinic

The city of San Benito will be distributing 500 doses of the Moderna vaccine rather than 500 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine at its COVID-19 vaccination clinic set for Thursday, April 15. 

The change comes after the the U.S. on Tuesday morning recommended a pause in administration of the J&J vaccine as it investigates reports of potentially dangerous blood clots.

According to a news release from the city: 

"Thursday’s clinic was originally going to administer the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine, but the decision by the state to switch to the Moderna vaccine came after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration decided to pause the use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

The city says previously released information about the clinic will remain the same, including time and location. 

The clinic is set to take place from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 15, at the San Benito Fairgrounds located at 551 Cesar Gonzalez Parkway.

The clinic is open to anyone over 18.

Pre-registration packets will be available for pickup beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 14, at the San Benito Fairgrounds.

Individuals must show a government-issued ID and complete the registration and consent forms to receive a vaccine.

Overnight parking is not allowed.
