City Official Under Suspension for Allegedly Misusing Public Funds

MERCEDES – The city of Mercedes suspended their city manager. He allegedly spent taxpayer money without the city’s permission.

City commissioners voted to suspend Richard Garcia after city leaders learned Garcia might have been paying a utility bill for a nearby non-profit without the city’s approval.

Commissioner Juan Gomez told CHANNEL 5 NEWS Garcia will remain under suspension without pay while an internal audit is conducted.
