Close to 10000 Old Tires Collected at Event
WESLACO – The Lower Rio Grande Development Council reported the Saturday tire roundup brought in nearly 10,000 old tires.
LRGVDC executive director Ron Garza said the collection sites were located in various parts of Hidalgo, Cameron and Willacy Counties.
The approximate number of tires dropped off during the June 24th roundup was approximately 7,000.
Garza said this brings the total from the July 15 and June 24 projects to 17,000.
He said the purpose of collecting old tires for free is to give Valley residents an incentive to avoid dumping them illegally.
