MCALLEN – U.S. Border Patrol agents said the cold weather has claimed the lives of several people found crossing into the country illegally.

Last Thursday, the Brooks County Sheriff’s Office notified agents about an immigrant found dead on a ranch near Falfurrias. The person didn’t have any identification on them and was taken to a local funeral home.

In Kingsville, a ranch hand called agents about an immigrant who appeared to be suffering from hypothermia. The man was shaking and going in and out of consciousness.

He was taken to a hospital where he later died.

Agents were also able to rescue three Guatemalans in the U.S. illegally before they succumbed to hypothermia. In Falfurrias, two Guatemalan men lost in the brush were also rescued.

A Guatemalan woman was found also found in McAllen suffering from hypothermia after being abandoned in the brush.

She was treated at the scene and taken to the hospital for more treatment.
