SANTA ROSA – A community meeting on Wednesday night left some residents feeling unsafe.

District Attorney Luis Saenz says he won’t be accepting cases handled by Police Chief Ronnie Hernandez after city officials voted to keep him in power.

Santa Rosa resident, Cruz Rodriguez, says the police department that once brought her a sense of safety is now raising questions.

She says the city felt safer 60 years ago than it does now.

Saenz said in a statement, "to the extent that the citizens of Santa Rosa deserve to have their cases prosecuted, I will review each case individually and determine whether or not Mr. Hernandez's involvement will compromise the case."

The Texas Attorney General’s Office says the district attorney is allowed to recuse himself from cases or refer them somewhere else.
