WESLACO – The new acting secretary of the Department of Homeland Security is making a plea to lawmakers on Capitol Hill.

Kevin McAleenan says Border Patrol agents at the border are stretched thin and need help.

He told lawmakers at a congressional hearing Tuesday that officials will ask for extra funding.

McAleenan says more money is needed to help build additional migrant processing facilities, address capacity issues, add extra border personnel and upgrade technology systems.
