Diocese of Brownsville Opposes Construction of Border Wall on Property
BROWNSVILLE – The federal government’s interest over land to secure the border has a Rio Grande Valley bishop standing his ground.
In an online statement issued out Monday, Rev. Daniel Flores, Bishop of the Diocese of Brownsville, says they’re trying to take land behind the Juan Diego Academy and near La Lomita in Mission.
Flores says the structure itself would limit the church’s freedom to exercise their mission and would be contrary to it.

KRGV’s Daisy Martinez learned the government has notified the Diocese that court documents have already been filed in federal court to try to gain access to their land.
