WESLACO – Donations and messages from across the country continue to pour in for support of church-run migrant shelters in the Rio Grande Valley.

As usual, a number of people and families seeking asylum make a stop in McAllen before they head north.

Mike Blum with the Jewish Temple Emanuel’s Social Action says they stepped in to help Catholic Charities of the RGV when that number increased three years ago.

“We were once strangers in the land of Egypt and you don’t turn your back on a stranger just because they come from Latin America,” he says.

Blum says he’ll continue to serve as the contact person and help coordinate donations for the organization.

KRGV’s Angelo Vargas has the details.
