DONNA – On Monday a driver lost control and crashed into a nearby orchard at the intersection of Victoria Road and Mile 10.

Department of Public Safety said the vehicle caught fire, but the driver made it out safely.

People who live near this intersection said it's common to see a crash.

"This is where we have a lot of people get hurt there," said Barry Guerrero who lives next to intersection.

Guerrero tells us the intersection near his home is no stranger to crashes. The crash on Monday landed feet away from his front yard.

"I have family, I have my grandchildren my daughters and my sons and I'm always worried somebody might hit them," said Guerrero.

According to The Texas Department of Transportation there have been ten crashes with in the span of about a year at that very intersection.

"Anytime you have one or two accidents a month, that's just too many I think," said Guerrero.

One of the things which concerns Guerrero is something our crews saw when they first arrived at the intersection. While there are caution lights they don't appear to be working.

He feels without these lights it makes it even more dangerous, especially at night.

"There are a lot of people that just speed. They drive too fast, it's a 30 mile speed limit zone here," said Guerrero.

While living here for over 40 years he told CHANNEL 5 NEWS it's only been like this recently, "It wasn't all that bad but as the population increased and with the colonias all that the traffic increased to."

He hopes something is done to make the area safer for him and his family.

We reached out to precinct 1 in Hidalgo County. They are looking into what they can do for the intersection. They also tell us they plan to fix the lights on Monday.
