BROWNSVILLE - DPS Troopers were back on Highway 48 near the Port of Brownsville on Wednesday, reconstructing the scene of a fatal accident.

Traffic was diverted as they worked to map the accident that killed 22-year-old Gary Sturgill of Brownsville.

DPS Spokesman Johnny Hernandez said the victim was behind the wheel when a tire on his SUV blew out.

His vehicle then veered into the lane of oncoming traffic and hit a recycling truck head on.

Sturgill died at the hospital and the passenger remains in critical condition.
