EDINBURG – A drainage project is underway in Hidalgo County to alleviate flooding.

The project is in the Precinct 1 area on Mile 15 ½ between Mile 1 and 2 West.

Hidalgo County Precinct 1 Commissioner David Fuentes said the project is already in its last phase.

“We typically see in this area, experience, a lot of rainfall in the early part of September. So, we’re hopeful that all of that will be done before the end of August,” he said.

Fuentes said the project is being paid for through grants from the Texas General Land Office.

The Hidalgo County Drainage District is leading the construction site.
