WESLACO - The Texas Department of Transportation is advising drivers to be more cautious out on the road during inclement weather.

TxDOT spokesperson Octavio Saenz said people should drive according to the conditions to avoid accidents. He said drivers should always slow down in construction zones.

“I would exercise a little bit of caution. Drive to those conditions, slow down, leave enough buffer room and it’s extremely important to have all distraction away from the driver’s hand,” he said.

He said people should also be prepared by frequently replacing windshield wipers and having their vehicles’ brakes checked.

Saenz added all drivers should schedule extra time to get to their destination on time.
