NEAR EDINBURG - An early morning fire left at least eight people homeless north of Edinburg.

The fire started inside a home on the 5800 block of north Kenyon Road around 1:30 a.m.

Edinburg Fire Chief Snider said the home was fully engulfed when they arrived at the scene. The blaze took less than an hour to control but destroyed the entire structure.

The family of eight managed to get out safely.

The American Red Cross is expected to meet Friday with the family to assist them with recovery.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
