ELSA - The Game of the Week came down to the final minute of play between Juarez-Lincoln and Edcouch-Elsa. The visiting Huskies scored a touchdown to pull within one point. Looking for a fourth consecutive win to start the season, Juarez-Lincoln went for the two-point conversion, but was unable to score when the ball popped loose on the way to the end zone. The Yellow Jackets held on for a 14-13 win.
There were a pair of district games in 31-5A. Sharyland won at Valley View 48-6 for a 1-and-0 district start. The lead in the district is a three-way tie among Nixon, Rio Grande City and Mission Veterans. The Patriots defeated Roma 40-10 for their fourth straight win of 2017.
Tight finishes were also on display in Pharr and McAllen. La Joya edged PSJA North 21-20. The Bulldogs lost in overtime 34-31 to visiting Victoria East.
