MCALLEN – The city of McAllen is warning residents about wads of fishing line found at Fireman’s Park.

They say visitors and wildlife could be put in jeopardy by those leaving their fishing line on the ground at Town Lake.

KRGV’s Carolina Cruz spoke with the recreation supervisor for the city of McAllen, Tiffany Kersten, about the issue.

“What's happening is, it gets windy and fishing line isn't super easy to see, which is part of the reason it's such an issue for wildlife,” says Kersten.

She explains the lake is catch and release and everything must go back in the water.
