LA JOYA – A former La Joya ISD school board trustee who resigned last month to focus on his upcoming trial pleaded guilty.

Juan Jose “JJ” Garza pleaded guilty on Wednesday to federal wire fraud charges.

He allegedly conspired with another man, Armando Jimenez, in a bid rigging scheme while serving as the executive director of La Joya’s Housing Authority.

Court documents show Garza, along with Jimenez, submitted false bids to secure construction projects for Donna and Alamo housing authorities in 2012 and 2013.

Garza’s sentencing is set for the summer.
