MISSION –Border Patrol met with local leaders to layout security and talk about the border wall.

The status of work on the border wall was ironed out by Border Patrol officials and Congressman Henry Cuellar in a meeting on Monday.

Much of the border wall talk is still in the early stages. However, some spending has gotten the greenlight already.

Rio Grande Valley Sector Chief Manuel Padilla said 35 gates are funded under the 2017 fiscal year budget. They will fill in gaps that were never filled since portions of the wall went up in 2008.

Padilla said the gates will continue to be made in a traditional style.

“What we have here is called a bollard fence. It’s a see through fence if you have seen that fence. The gates will be similar to the gates that we already have,” he said.

Padilla said the money for these projects is there.

Congressman Henry Cuellar predicts the gates won’t be installed until two years.

Everything else related to a border wall remains unfunded, except some money set aside this year for geo-technical work.
