WESLACO – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is researching properties in the Rio Grande Valley for a project in collaboration with Border Patrol, said a spokesperson Friday.

The information comes after a report Sunday by Democratic members of the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee, saying the research was for "border wall requirements" in the Rio Grande Valley.

"In July, CBP announced it would work with the Army Corps of Engineers on land acquisition efforts," said the authors of the report, "by immediately conducting in-person reviews of property records at county courthouses in South Texas."

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said it is currently researching land records in the Rio Grande Valley, in response to a request by CHANNEL 5 NEWS for confirmation.

The research is for "a number of authorized and proposed Border Patrol projects," said a spokesperson.
